Superradiance as single scattering embedded in an effective medium

چکیده

We present an optical picture of linear-optics superradiance, based on a single scattering event embedded in dispersive effective medium composed by the other atoms. This linear-dispersion theory is valid at low density and single-scattering regime, i.e., when exciting field largely detuned. The comparison with coupled-dipole model shows perfect agreement for superradiant decay rate. Then we use two advantages this approach. First make direct experimental data, without any free parameter, show good quantitative agreement. Second, address problem moving atoms, which can be efficiently simulated adding Doppler broadening to theory. In particular, discuss how recover superradiance high temperature.

Terahertz scattering by granular composite materials: An effective medium theory

Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy and imaging have emerged as important tools for identification and classification of various substances, which exhibit absorption characteristics at distinct frequencies in the THz range. The spectral fingerprints can potentially be distorted or obscured by electromagnetic scattering caused by the granular nature of some substances. In this paper, we present THz tim...

Wave scattering by many small particles embedded in a medium

Theory of wave scattering by many small bodies is developed under various assumptions concerning the ratio ad , where a is the characteristic dimension of a small body and d is the distance between neighboring bodies d = O(aκ1), 0 < κ1 < 1. On the boundary Sm of every small body an impedance-type condition is assumed ∂uM ∂N = ζmuM on Sm, 1 ≤ m ≤ M , ζm = hma, 0 < κ, hm are constants independent...

Analysis of Nonlinear Vibrations for Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes Embedded in an Elastic Medium

Nonlinear free vibration analysis of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) embedded in an elastic medium is studied in this paper based on classical (local) Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. Using the averaging method, the nonlinear free vibration responses of DWCNTs are obtained. The result is compared with the obtained results from the harmonic balance method for single-walled carbon nanotubes (...

Electromagnetic scattering by a fixed finite object embedded in an absorbing medium.

This paper presents a general and systematic analysis of the problem of electromagnetic scattering by an arbitrary finite fixed object embedded in an absorbing, homogeneous, isotropic, and unbounded medium. The volume integral equation is used to derive generalized formulas of the far-field approximation. The latter serve to introduce direct optical observables such as the phase and extinction ...

Inherent and apparent scattering properties of coated or uncoated spheres embedded in an absorbing host medium.

The conventional Lorenz-Mie formalism is extended to the case for a coated sphere embedded in an absorbing medium. The apparent and inherent scattering cross sections of a particle, derived from the far field and near field, respectively, are different if the host medium is absorptive. The effect of absorption within the host medium on the phase-matrix elements associated with polarization depe...
